I came in here about 4pm Sunday because I needed rice and maybe some beans or vegetables for dinner. They had yellow rice with vegetables so I got that with some beans and fried yellow plantains. There was no one waiting when I got there. My order was packed and bagged. $5. That seemed like 2019 pricing which is great.

First time in this area to visit the library nearby, Tavares was a great choice for a quick to go lunch. The restaurant was quite busy when I arrived on a Friday afternoon but there were about 3-4 staff behind the counters serving the line. Overall it was only about 5 minute in and out of the restaurant with my delicious lunch. Food was absolutely incredible, the mix of baked beans and the pork belly gravy reminded me of how delicious Dominican food was while in the Caribbeans. Price was actually lower than I expected where its under $10. Definitely would recommend the place if you're ever in the area, its right next the J train stop and the lady that helped me spoke great English so for those that are Spanish challenged like me definitely quite a warming welcome.

i was happy to find out this restaurant serves breakfast. I begin work at 5 am so i have lunch early which means I am basically eating breakfast. ok so I decided to go into Tavares. there were typical Dominican breakfast options i.e magu (sp?), salami, oatmeal, eggs, avocado etc. i purchased whole wheat toast with salami and a passionfruit juice. it hit the spot thanks.

Tavares Restaurant is open all day! Literally could eat all my meals here if I wanted to. There's a few other restaurants in the area as well but everyone seems to come here. Even the cops who patrol the neighborhood stop there for food. I ordered a small rice, beans and chicken. It was the size of a child's plate for $4 but it filled me up. For $1 more I could of got a larger togo plate but I just wanted to try it out for myself since I saw everyone was eating from here. They also sell cakes in the front that I've never tried. But I'm on it!

If you want decent Latin food with clean facilities, this is the place to go in this part of Brooklyn. They have varieties of rice and beans, chicken, fish, soup, salad, etc. The people there are really nice, even though who are English language newbies. I usually give ip and speak Spanish, the appreciate friendly native words sometimes.... remember some people are rude and yell at them. There is a small dine on area as well. I usually split the 1/2 roast chichen special with the bf and we are always stuffed. Where else can that happen for $8? The salads are also pretty good with the homemade vinegarette. Be sure to check the rest of the menu, there are lots of specials.
